Marcus Pelegrimas

Whenever I find a local author especially in a genre I LOVE (horror)  I try to get a hold of their books.

Marcus Pelegrimas is a local author here in Omaha Ne,  by his own words “Yes, he eats corn, No, he doesn’t live on a farm.(check out his page here)”   Marcus is also a member of the Nevermore Paranormal ghost hunting group.(check them out here)

I will say I was a little taken aback at the first couple of reviews I read, but I bought the book anyways. Once I started reading the 1st book, I realized that people seemed to be upset because this was not your typical Vampire, Werewolf book.  This is not a love story intertwined with a vampire book, and no sparkling Vampires.  Basically, this isn’t your mother’s or baby sister’s type of book.    If that is what you’re looking for then check out Sherrilyn Kenyon or the Twilight Series.  But if you are true diehard when it comes to horror, I implore you to check him out.

“Bram Stroker of the 21st Century “– Paul Goat Allen

His 1st Skinners book ‘Blood Blade’ starts out by introducing you to Cole (a game developer, off onto a much need vacation on British Columbia) and Paige (a skinner).  Basically, Cole is being pursued through the woods by werewolves.  Once Cole is saved and back in the US he realizes that what he thought was imaginary or make believe is actually all true and there are “fighters” out there called Skinners.  Now Cole believes that he too can help in controlling this new world he has come to know.
From almost the beginning of this 1st book you are mesmerized and you can’t wait to see what will happen next.  These are fast paced books which left me breathless and wanting more.  So imagine my joy to discover his new book ‘Extinction Agenda’ will be out October 25th, if you are already a reader make sure to pre-order your book today on Amazon.com here. Also, if you want to check out the first chapter of Blood Blade; click here  If not, get over there a get his 1st book and start reading. (PS. I even provided a list for you.)   ~~~HAPPY READING~~~

WOW Hello

Seriously, how long has it been since I actually posted here?

So really not a whole lot has happened since then, it seems the geekiness (is this a real word) has taken a back seat to actual living.  So, it has been pretty boring.

We actually got one of the bedrooms painted and will be starting on the basement.  Jeff wants a "Man Cave" and we are in the planning stages.  He has been looking at all sorts of  "Caves" for ideas.  We are contemplating what we want down there.  (notice I said "WE" :) )

Ultimately, it will be his decision (Jeff, notice I put this in writting).

I will be painting the pantry this weekend because I am tired of the brown wood.  I was going to just use shelf paper, but why go out and spend money when we have paint laying around.   We actually only spent $7 on a gallon of paint for the bedroom and this paint will be free since we already had it.  Okay enough frugalness from me.

Missa no getin it!!

Can someone explain to me why no one likes Jar Jar Binks?  I LOVE his character!!  I can understand not liking back stabbing Lando or even the Dark Lord Vader (even though he is pretty cool), but Jar Jar brought comic relief to these movies.  Children love him, does this make me simple minded or just young at heart?

For those who don't know, Jar Jar Binks is a fictional, digital character from Star Wars.  I have located a lot of sites, blogs, and comments online about how much people hate him.  But WHY???

I remember when the movie was coming out there was an uproar about this character and how people thought he was speaking Ebonics and was, well, basically making fun of Black people.  Which this went along with many of the comments about the lack of "color" (black people) in the earlier Star Wars movies.  Then for "the man" George Lucas to actually have the nerve to place a digitally animated character into his movies that may or may not represent someone from the black community is ridiculous.  I mean seriously people!! Seriously!!  This poor, clumsy, good guy who was made an outcast by his people is just trying to get by in this cruel world like everyone else.  So, why the hatred?

Are you a geek?

I bet you are.  Maybe you don't start hyperventilating when George Lucas' name is mentioned or start sweating when you see Natalie Portman or (some other female sci fi star), but I bet when your favorite football team is playing near by you are trying to get tickets.  My husband taught me the difference between certain terms.  So here is my interpretation of what a Geek, Nerd, or Dweeb are.

A Geek is someone who knows every detail of a movie, actor, sports,  games, any kind of genre you pick.  You know the ins and outs, you know when something is out of place, or a mistake was made.  Or a term was used incorrectly...etc.
A Nerd is someone I see as a techie or book smart.  You are known for rattling off mundane facts, and would be the perfect phone a friend on Who Wants To Be a Millionare.
A Dweeb is someone who may be socially inept, unattractive you are very unlikely to have a significant other and would not know how to interact with others. (sorry if I offend anyone :) ) Plus see my definition to a nerd.

So, I bet if you think about it, you are a GEEK.  I am a candle geek, I can tell you anything you need to know about a candle.  I like horror films, but I am not a Horror Geek.  I don't know most of the actors who play in them and most of the names of the movies or shows are forgettable to me.  Maybe you know everything there is not know about sports, clothes or cars.  You probably never thought of yourself as a geek.  But I bet you are. :)

Nothing surprises me

Okay I have heard it all now.  I was talking to my husband one afternoon at work and he asks if we are doing anything on a certain weekend.  No,  I cannot think of anything and I do not have anything on our calendar.  Why did my dear, sweet, adorable hubby say that he wanted to go on a Zombie Preparedness camping weekend?

Have I missed something?  Are we getting ready to be invaded by the zombie, body snatching aliens?  I mean seriously, seriously!!!!  LOL :)   This sounds like a weekend were people get together to shoot guns, arrows and drink around the campfire.  But, hey whatever floats his boat, so be it.  I totally need to come up with something off the wall and just call him and be like; yeah, are we doing anything tonight, the girls and I are going to the vampire, werewolf taming classes at the Metaphysical store, so don't wait up.

Our thoughts are with Japan

In light of all that has occurred and is still occurring in Japan, I feel that my general observations of my dear sweet husband will be put on the back burner for this post.  I remember when I was in high school we watched a movie and I do believe even read the book about Hiroshima.   I remember the emotion and terror you could feel from the movie and I also remember the anger we felt at the US.  But this was the reason for having the book as required reading. Our teacher wanted our feelings and input about what happened.  Will this be something that our children's children will be learning about?

The fact that they are comparing the earth quake and tsunami to this devastating time kind of opens your eyes to how powerful our earth really is.

I was able to locate the above photos from “The Telegraph” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ The picture on the left was taken 03/13/2011 and the picture on the right was taken right after the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.  More than 10,000 people are unaccounted for and feared to be dead (as of 03/14/2011 8a).    As of the writing of this post, they were really focusing their attention on the nuclear plants.  The fear is they may become more unstable and cause an uncontrolled radiation leak.   Which will obviously be a horrible thing.

My thoughts go out to the people of Japan and hope that they will be able to bounce back from this devastation.

Can I get a Geektionary?

The picture above is a bar scene from the movie Star Wars.  Do you think you could name the characters standing around the bar? Better yet, could you name the actors who played these characters?  This is an example of the dedication and knowledge my dear sweet husband  and most of his friend have.  I am lucky to be able to follow what is going on in the scene.

There are times when talking with my husband and his friends, I feel like I am in a foreign country.  All I ask is that you speak English to me and geek to others. :)  I am not content with sitting in a corner nodding my head in understanding and then asking my husband later what the heck was everyone talking about.  LOL!

I have noticed that I am picking up on some of the "lingo" and I can state certain facts about Star Wars (which is my husband's love) and I LOVE those little Ewoks.  But I still cannot and probably will never be able to quote anything from a movie.  Even some of my favorite movies I cannot pull a line out unless you count "ET phone home" or any song from Grease or Grease II?

So here's some advise from a geeks wife, if you get a lot of head nodding and not alot of contribution to your conversation about Alderaan, TARDIS or a Tribble, it does not mean we are in awe of your knowledge but are most likely confused and have no idea what you are talking about. While writing this I could not recall something, so you should never assume all boys are geeks.  I walked over to one of my male coworkers and asked if he remembered the name of those little furry things on Star Trek.  He informed me that he has never and will never watch Star Trek. :(  As I walked away from his desk I yelled "TRIBBLES" and know my other coworkers think I have lost it.  ((shrug)) Oh well. :)

They say knowledge is power and everyday I try to learn something new, so that I can be more of a contributor to conversations instead of an observer.

Robot Child

So, I was just sitting here wondering what I should write about, and it came to me R2TD!  For those who don't know who this is.  He is our Robot Child.  My dear husband built him literally from the ground up.  I am so proud of him.  I am happy the main project is done with, because I saw little of him when this was happening.  One of my friends and fellow "geek wife" says we should get shirts that say "R2 ruined my married".  As much as it bothered me with the amount of time he was gone.  I am happy he was able to complete such a project.  But know he (the robot) sits in our livingroom and does nothing.  I keep telling him he needs to figure out a way to attached a vacuum so he is at least pulling his weight around here. :)

One of the main reasons I did not see Jeff for almost a year (insert exaggeration) was due to the fact, he was trying to finish R2-TD for a Star Wars Convention in Florida and to be able to meet the man!

The Man "George Lucas"

R2-TD among is brothers and sisters

Florida was an amazing experience and we were happy to be able to be apart of the convention.

GOT IT

So, it took a little finagling but my dear Jeff located his arrest picture. (see below.)
So, I get this picture in an email and he says.  Guess which one is me?  Did I pick the right guy??  Maybe :)  I remember him telling me about some convention him and one of his friends attended.  He actually has this photo titled "The day the costume sickness started."  I should have known, but how could I.  Facebook did not even exist when we first met and this was my first computer and honestly the first time I was actually introduced to the internet.

He was not able to find the picture of Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker that he sent me, but insisted that I post this:
I will say that, I am impressed with all the people he has been able to meet.  Plus all the autographs that litter his walls in his office, but when do you say enough is enough.  He is my GEEK and I love him for all his little quirks.

In the few months before I REALLY got to know him, I grew to love his charm and big heart and all the rest did not matter.   When they say opposites attract, they weren't lieing.  As one of my friends says: he is my "lobster"!

Living the Geek Life

Funny, when I was growing up and dreaming of my future husband.  I never thought he would be a "GEEK."

We actually met online through some random dating service.  I was dared by my roommate to fill out the membership and see what happens.  So, I was honest about what I wanted:  Good person, funny, no concern with height/weight...blah, blah, blah...  Well, when I was finished and pushed enter, there he sat, just one match.  So, what do I do.  My roommate and her infinite wisdom "dared" me to contact him. Quick little note to him and the rest is history.

But funny story from this online meeting.  After about a week or so of chatting online, I asked if I could see a picture of him.  So he initial sent me a picture of him and one of his friends being arrested by Stormtroopers (I am currently trying to get my hands on this picture). (see stormtrooper reference below. (picture from: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Stormtrooper ))

Obviously picture attached for reference purposes only and if you don't know what one looks like. Okay?? Pretty cool.  Then he sent me a picture of Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker (and yes I admit, I had to google search their names; also trying to locate this picture :) ).  My roommate blurts out "Oh Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels"  so I said something to him about it and later he told me, he was extremely excited that he may have just met the girl of his dreams, another Star Wars fan.  But he was in for a big surprise and so was I.
